Self-appointed culture curator and face of the NBA, LeBron James, posted his top 5 rap albums of all-time to Twitter:

These debates are NEVER-Ending rabbit holes that stink of subjectiveness and marketing ploys.

Let’s break down why LeBron’s picks are great & odd:

1. Both Dr. Dre‘s The Chronic AND Snoop Dogg‘s Doggystyle seldom appear on these lists together, for whatever reason. As close as they are, they seem world’s apart.

2. Jay Z‘s The Black Album over The Blueprint is as bold a move, if not more than Nas‘ It Was Written over his debut, Illmatic. However, depending on what you’re looking for, is the right move.

3. The Notorious B.I.G‘s posthumous album, Life After Death doesn’t seem like an “out there” selection, but it could be seen that way. For some odd reason Biggie’s debut LP, Ready To Die, is overshadowed by the behemoth aforementioned double-album. Pound for pound, RTD may still be the winner in a head-to-head.

4. A top Hip-Hop albums list without Illmatic at #1, much less not on this list, may be dismissed as non-credible by the majority of heads. It’s like not having Jesus in the Bible.
