Let’s dive right into G-HOLY.COM’s review of passive the rapper’s new album, ‘acoustic 4passive’:
From its onset, you can tell passive the rapper‘s ‘acoustic 4passive’ is an entire different bag from what’s readily available in mainstream rap.
What shouldn’t get lost in all the melodic tones and standout marketing is passive’s lyrical genius. 4passive is a RAPPER.
It’s on full display even on hooks:
“All I know is take one/ All I know is one-take/ All I know, my day one’s/ We gon’ make it one day/ I ain’t take that safe route/ I just hope this route safe/ What you making that face about?/ Boy, you better about-face”
4passive aggressively spits on “take one take“.
“cool kid, once” is the ultimate ‘Damn, homie. In high school you was the man, homie.‘ moment. While, “kinda cold” is the least “rap” song on the project. It literally is only 2 instruments and none of them is a drum. The latter can be misleading as it pertains to the album’s vibe, in macro.
Let’s talk about the hit record! “remedy” is a ready-to-go, fresh out the oven smash record. A syrupy melody juxtaposed with upbeat drums and a chorus so infectious, everyone will catch it, immediately.
Second on the “hit-list” is ‘heathens‘. A gritty-tale given a polished finish via its soundscape and feature artist. It’s like the savage b-side Usher and Alicia Keys “My Boo”.
On the outro, “simulation“, passive the rapper uses esoteric themes to convey everyday philosophical queries. Kind of genius, again.
Overall, passive the rapper shows his unique ability to keep up with rappers at every level on ‘acoustic 4passive’. More of a double-edged sword than a swiss-army knife, this project will like be his ‘Section.80‘, or dare I say ‘Acid Rap‘. There’s definitely more in store.
