Wale has come through with a bouncy feel good anthem to get us all through the winter. Titled “Good Vibes (Za)”, the track sees Wale reflecting on all of the madness of 2020 and the need for positivity moving forward into the new year: “2020 showed me my vision was truly blurry/I’m tired, I’m fried, we all need a reset”. He also addresses the 2021 storming of the United States Capitol–commenting on the double standard the incident represents regarding the treatment of African Americans by the police force: “I seen the Capitol being filled with a bunch of rioters/Looters and super white people that was getting too rowdy/You do that and you black they gon’ clap you and hug your mommy like”.
Wale has never been one to bite his tongue in regards to addressing social injustices. Just refer to the music video for his record “Sue Me (feat. Kelly Price)”–a politically charged statement on the current state of racism in America that achieved relative virality. The socially conscious rapper looks to make similar ripples within the Hip-Hop landscape with “Good Vibes (Za)”.
KINGMiDAS handles the production for the new track–backing Wale’s sporadic flow with a hard hitting beat that hits the ears like a ray of summer sun. This track marks the second release this year from the DMV native. The first of which being the collaborative effort with Westside Gunn and Smoke DZA titled “The Hurt Business”. This is a great sign for fans of the veteran rapper considering his last full length project, Wow… That’s Crazy, was released back in 2019. An album that landed at number 7 on the US Billboard 200 upon its release.
