Last year Nas and Hit-Boy collaborated for a full project, King’s Disease. Coming in at #7 on the G-HOLY.com‘s “Top 9 Albums Of 2020” list, the album was embraced with warm reception from ctritcs/media outlets. It was Nas’ return. ‘Nasty’s’ comeback from the blunder that was the ‘Nasir’ LP and it’s rollout that included Teyana Taylor, Pusha T, Kanye West & Kid Cudi. The ‘Nasir’ album, fully produced by ‘West’ was the standard 7-song length for all of the other G.O.O.D Music projects that released at that time.
“Rich, Matte Black Roll’s/ Yeah I Got Her Seeing Ghosts/ 27 Summers, That Wasn’t Even The Goal”
This time around though, Hit-Boy was responsible for the soundtrack, as well as instrumental in nabbing some key features for ‘King’s Disease‘. These features include Big Sean, Fivio Foreign, Lil Durk, Lil Wayne, Anderson .Paak, The Firm including Foxy Brown and a host of others. The first single “Ultra Black“, let the fans know ‘Esco’ had something something coming in early 2020, but it was “27 Summers” that made noise as a fan favorite once “KD” dropped.
A ‘Jon J Visual‘, “27 Summers” music video features DJ Khaled on a golf course with Nas, discussing how “Every summer is ours.” A golf ball can be seen being set up to be hit with a Hennessey bottle as a tee. The rest of the video displays the luxury lifestyle that ‘Escobar’ raps about on the song, equipped with Roll’s Royce’s, big jewelry and movie-like scenery.
The 47 year old recently paid his respects to fellow Hip-Hop legend MF DOOM via the “If I Ruled The World” rapper’s official Instagram account. “My bro MFDOOM…” was the caption the Queen’s Emcee chose to honor our fallen rap legend.
King’s Disease is Nas’ thirteenth studio album. It was released August 21, 2020 on Nas’ own Mass Appeal Records. Other acts on or associated with ‘Mass Appeal’ include Hip-Hop veterans ‘Run The Jewels‘, New York City staple ‘Dave East‘, Griselda Records signee Boldy James and music from the late, great Pimp C and J Dilla. DJ Shadow, Cuz Lightyear, N.O.R.E and Mannie Fresh fill out the roster.
